What is a Thanksgiving Basket?

A Thanksgiving basket is a basket (or box) filled with non-perishable foods used to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner. Each basket is donated in full to a family in need.

Here a sample list of items to include in your Thanksgiving basket:

  • Frozen turkey

  • Canned Ham

  • Stuffing Mix

  • Box of Instant Potatoes or bag of potatoes

  • Box of Macaroni and Cheese

  • Canned Yams

  • Canned Green Beans

  • Canned of Corn

  • Canned Cranberry Sauce

  • Jars of Gravy (Or packets)

  • 1 Cornbread Mix

  • Fruit

  • Boxed Dessert Mix

  • Grocery Store Gift Card (A grocery gift card isn’t required, but it’s a nice addition for a family in need. This will allow them to buy any additional fresh ingredients they’ll need to prepare their Thanksgiving dinner.)

Thank you for your generosity for our Parish Families in need!

The Christian family is ordinarily the first experience of the Christian community and the primary environment for growth in faith.  Because it is the “church of the home,” the family provides a unique locus for catechesis.  It is a place in which the word of God is received and from which it is extended.  Within the Christian family, parents are the primary educators in the faith and “the first heralds of the faith with regard to their children.”  But all the members make up the family, and each can make a unique contribution to creating the basic environment in which a sense of God’s loving presence is awakened and faith in Jesus Christ is confessed, encouraged, and lived. ~From the National Directory for Catechesis

The HEART OF THE FAMILY is an “impromptu” group of families (parents and children including grandparents) from the Parish who volunteers their time and talent to provide support to the needs of their Church and community. They bind their efforts to raise funds on parish projects and to provide meals to the needy during special holidays. They sponsor the Fish ‘n Fries on Fridays during the Lenten Season. They package and deliver Thanksgiving baskets to the poor on Thanksgiving Day.

If you are interested in joining the group in any of their activities, please contact Veronica Kuehn from the Parish Office.
